Blind Cord Safety

Install blinds that do not have a cord, particularly in a child's bedroom

It is believed that 30 deaths have occurred amongst young children across the UK since 1999 and there has been a growing efforts to prevent these tragic accidents.

Cords and chains of blinds must always be kept out of the reach of babies and young children as, if accessible, they may present a strangulation hazard.

Changes to the European standard for internal window blinds in February 2014 means all new blinds must be "safe by design" or be supplied and fitted with an appropriate child safety device.

The British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) has launched a new video on what to look for in new blinds and how to make exiting blinds safer.
